At the moment the MSXdev26 officially opened its doors, GW’s-Workshop wasn’t shy and dropped their entry at our doorstep. Meet YokoXevi, a classic side scrolling shooter made with 1983’s technology.
Fans of MSXdev likely take notice when Japanese developer GW joins the event, as the team has wowed us in past editions with classic MSX1 shooters that ranked high on the list. Staying true to tradition, GW’s-Workshop has unveiled its latest shooter, YokoXevi, at the dev show.
According to the author, the goal was to create a sideways (yoko in Japanese) scrolling game reminiscent of the classic Xevious shooter, but with several twists. Think, for example, of added PSG samples, multiple parallax scrolling backgrounds and multiplexed sprites. Mission accomplished, we’d say.
Control your ship using a keyboard or joystick/pad, and fend off incoming enemies with regular shots or downward ground missiles. If you survive, the mothership awaits you.
The game YokoXevi is available for download including the ROM and PDF manual.
