If you’re a homebrew MSX games fanatic, you can’t have missed the UnEpic game series. With four recent high-quality MSX ROM titles under their belt, there’s no denying the joy of having all that 8-bit goodness in our loot box. For the lucky winners of MSXdev26, the games Prisoner of War, Ghost, Pampas & Selene, and their latest release, Nora, are up for grabs.
With Ghost (2017), the UnEpic team surprised everyone with this action platformer as their debut title. Developed for the MSX1, the game lets players explore numerous rooms and battle formidable end-bosses on a quest to save humanity after a fierce robot-versus-human war.
The follow up, Prisoner of War (2018), inspired by one of the greatest MSX classics, Metal Gear, throws you into a rescue and escape mission. After your helicopter is shot down, you survive the crash only to be captured. Time to get moving, soldier!
With the release of Pampas & Selene – The Maze of Demons (2023), a spiritual sequel to the legendary Maze of Galious, this MSX2 game with SCC tunes marks UnEpic’s magnum opus. Already a true MSX classic, it takes you on another thrilling adventure through a dark castle. If someone told you Konami had released it, you’d probably believe it without hesitation. Masterpiece!
Nora (2026) is their most recent game that masterfully combines the timeless, fast-paced action of Tetris with the creative challenge of word-building, delivering a fresh and engaging experience for one or two players to enjoy simultaneously.
In this bundle, each game comes as a physical ROM cartridge, complete with box and manual, and promises hours of guaranteed 8-bit gaming fun. You could call this an epic package of MSX games, yeah pun intended.
