With the game Shift you step into the monochromatic and mind-bending universe where black and white landscapes hide more than meets the eye, where inside is outside, and light and dark don’t differ. A puzzle-platform game that sets your brain on fire.
Remember the MSXdev23 entry called Tenebra 2, an intriguing black-and-white dungeon puzzle crawler from Haplo? The author clearly has a fondness for monographic games, as his latest work follows the same formula but with an added twist. Shift is the MSX port of Haplo’s own game that already landed on various platforms, and it is as entertaining as it is perplexing.
In this game, you take on the role of a test-subject for the experimental use of Shift, a device used to flip gravity, swap planes. With endless lives (phew!), your task is to use this highly advanced piece of extraterrestrial technology to manipulate the environment and find your way to the exit to escape the room. The game has many rooms and, luckily, a password system.
