MSXdev25 yields 50 new games

MSXdev25 has officially crossed its submission deadline, marking a major milestone for the compo. With 50 submitted games, a new record is set. The contest proudly closes its call for submissions with a strong lineup of new MSX games that showcase the community’s creativity and dedication.

What happened? Seriously, what on earth happened here? We’re still amazed at the number of contestants and game submissions for this year’s MSXdev. It’s an absolute, all-time record for the number of games entered. On top of that, we’ve witnessed a whole new side of the classic 8-bit MSX, where things once thought impossible suddenly became possible.

On average, in recent years the compo gets about 30 games submitted to the contest, which is already impressive after 40 years of 8-bit service from the machine. This year, the MSXdev21 record of 34 entries is completely shattered—blown to smithereens and back with 50 entries. What an amazing scene we have for the MSX!

A big thank you to all contestants for entering fearlessly and sharing their creative skills with the world.

Yes, we have a bunch of new games, but let’s not forget this is a match. And with matches come prizes. We’ve got prize money from donations and, of course, a great lineup of sponsored items. We couldn’t be prouder of our sponsors who generously contributed one or two items to our winners’ loot box. Awesome, really awesome.

So, what happens next?

With all games safely in, jury deliberation begins. Over the coming period, the judges will dive into each entry, evaluating gameplay, technical execution, presentation, and overall design. This careful process determines the winners and special mentions that will define MSXdev25’s legacy.

The excitement now shifts behind the scenes, and before long, the results will be revealed. In the meantime, play! Or at least show your appreciation by contributing to the prize box.

game on!
