MSXdev25 #09 Zxetris

Title: Zxetris
Genre: Puzzle
Author(s): Fausto Pracek
Medium: ROM 16KB
Hardware requirements: MSX1

Zxetris is exactly what you’d expect—a Tetris clone, but with a twist. Fausto Pracek, the creator, flipped the game upside-down and inside-out, turning a classic into something completely unexpected.

A game compo wouldn’t feel complete without at least one Tetris clone, and this is the one. Zxetris takes the familiar concept and flips it on its head. Instead of blocks simply falling down like in the classic version, this variation allows them to flow in any direction. The chaos setting cranks up the confusion even further.

It’s a tried and tested formula – line up the Tetris blocks and score points. Simple. But if you’re too familiar with the routine, shake things up. Instead of blocks falling from top to bottom, let them rise up. Or make the blocks slide horizontally. Feeling extra bored? Go for chaos mode and have blocks randomly flow from any direction to any direction.

Zxetris requires an MSX1 standard machine to play.
