The stage is set – MSXdev25 kicks off its 21st edition! As in recent years, this edition accepts all MSX compatible games in its “Free Style” format. Are you a legacy developer, new to the scene or somewhere in between, and have that MSX itch that you just can’t scratch? In that case, this is you, and you’re invited to participate in the fun battle for glory.
Introduced in the year 2003, the MSXdev game compo challenges developers to cook up a fresh and original MSX game. This ongoing show, that already delivered around 350 unique MSX titles in its run, is celebrating its 21st edition this year. Once again, it is a freestyle edition where any MSX compatible game is accepted. No restrictions on hardware, thus no limits on creativity and fun.
This year we have opted to announce the compo two months in advance, while at the same time reducing the actual competition length from the usual nine months to six. It is hoped to achieve a more condensed period of entry submission, while keeping the total development time on par with previous editions. The MSXdev25 enrollment program officially starts on September the 15th 2025 and ends on March the 15th 2026. This means that starting now, you’ve got eight months of development time to a contribute an MSX game of your liking to our ever-growing MSX game library.
All submitted games will be evaluated by an annually rotating, dedicated jury of knowledgeable MSX users. At the time of writing, the jury panel is still being assembled and we will announce the jurors as soon as we have them signed.

As of this edition MSXdev is supporting NataliaPC FH browser to get your hands on the latest MSXdev game entries. This lovely piece of technology allows you to download and play it directly on your original hardware!
Once again, MSXdev depends entirely on the support of the MSX community through donations and sponsored items for its prizes.
