All pieces of Tetris are made up of 4 squared, but what if there were 5?
The pieces of Tetris are called tetrominoes (guess where the name Tetris comes from), but did you know that it was originally considered to be made with pentominoes, which have 5 pieces each? Go check the Wikipedia page of Tetris if you don’t believe us. Here’s what it says:
“He [Alexey Pajitnov] felt that the game would be needlessly complicated with the twelve different shapes of pentominoes, so he scaled the concept down to tetrominoes, of which there are only seven shapes“
How much more difficult could it be? Gamers love challenges, and Tetris has been mastered to exhaustion, from hypertapping, to rolling, to patching the game so it becomes playable. Players have gone through “dusk” and “charcoal” levels and even managed to crash the game… and then manage to avoid crashing it to go even further.
So, what once was considered “needlessly complicated” might be “just right” all these year later. Go try FIVER and figure it out yourself!
The package includes both the ROM and the original DSK version, pick your poison. Also, the manual in PDF is included.
