Soccer games are a classic, this being the second entry of that type this year. Also, at 34 entries, it is tied with MSXDev’21 for the most entries… and we still have 2 weeks to go!
From the classic arcades such as Super Sidekicks to Konami’s soccer, or the Spanish cassette classics Emilio Butragueño Futbol and Michel Futbol Master, bringing the rivalries from the teams to the game studios, soccer has always been a fan favorite and a prolific genre.
Author Fausto Pracek drew inspiration from another classic, the 1983 arcade Exciting Soccer, reshaping its spirit into a fresh MSX interpretation with his own creative twist.
Soccer League makes use of the V9990 to present crisp graphics and a gorgeous team selection screen, followed by a top-down view of the playing field with scroll, where you even see the referee running around.
Dust off your soccer boots, or you trusty joystick and get ready for some serious sports from the comfort of your MSX, without actually having to go out and sweat.
For your convenience, we’ve included an openMsx run file for Windows users which adds the V9990 extension and automatically shows its output screen. There is no manual included, you have to rely on your intuition to make it to the finals.
